SFRC Cares about Families

South Florida Recovery Center knows what addiction and alcoholism can do to a family.  Everyone suffers some form of physical, mental, and emotional pain.  A lot of the time the family suffers in silence prompting us to place a high value on supporting not only the directly affected individual, but their family as well.  Family members are encouraged to be involved in their loved ones treatment in order to be educated about addiction and alcoholism, gain tools for their own personal recovery, and develop a good understanding of the emotional consequences of the recovery process.  The following are common characteristics of families affected by addiction and alcoholism:
  • Low self-worth
  • Rigid or non-existent family rules, often appearing inconsistent, arbitrary, and irrational
  • Blaming and defensiveness are used as a means of coping and avoidance
  • Family operates as independents with no emotional connection
  • Feelings are not expressed openly or appropriately
  • Roles may be confused between children and parents
  • Stress related illness are common
  • Crisis is the norm

South Florida Recovery Center offers weekly family sessions on the following topics:

  • Relapse process
  • 12 steps for families
